Ristorante la Campana
About This Spot
Stepping into Ristorante la Campana is like slipping into a quieter corner of Rome’s bustling heart—where centuries of stories mingle with the soft murmur of convivial conversation. Tucked away on Vicolo della Campana, this intimate spot carries a sense of history that hums beneath its warmly lit rooms and rustic wooden tables. There is a timelessness here, a gentle rhythm that encourages you to slow down and savor both the company and the meal.
The atmosphere is unpretentious but distinctive, with a cozy, lived-in charm that reflects its standing as one of Rome's oldest trattorias. The pace feels thoughtful and unhurried, inviting guests to linger over shared plates and familiar flavors that seem to have been perfected through generations. Whether seated inside among the softly fading walls or enjoying an al fresco meal overlooking the nearby church, you sense the passage of time framed by a genuine Roman hospitality that makes every visitor feel like a welcome guest in someone’s home.
When it comes to the food, the experience is deeply connected to tradition without ever feeling static. Dishes arrive with an honest warmth and finesse—comforting yet refined, crafted to highlight the vibrant simplicity of Roman ingredients and the care behind each recipe. The fresh mozzarella, the bright snap of artichokes prepared with local know-how, the soulful allure of pastas like cacio e pepe and carbonara—all these evoke a lived-in familiarity, as though you’re partaking in a ritual as old as the city itself.
This is a place where the past and present converse quietly through flavors, where the attentive yet relaxed service adds to an overall sense of belonging. It’s not flashy, but there is a richness in the details—a perfectly seasoned plate, a shared joke from the staff, the soft clinking of glasses. La Campana invites those who appreciate food and moments anchored in authenticity, where every visit feels like stepping into a circle of friends, gathered around good food and better stories.

Absolutely phenomenal experience at Ristorante La Campana — easily a 5-star spot in the heart of Rome. Our server was fantastic — funny, welcoming, and made the whole evening even more enjoyable. The food? Outstanding. We started with the buffalo mozzarella, calamari, and rice balls — all super fresh and full of flavour. For our mains, we had the Cacio e Pepe and the Carbonara — and honestly, they were about as close to perfect as pasta can get. We also tried the tiramisu (we devoured it too fast for a photo!) — rich, creamy, and the perfect way to end the meal. Everything was reasonably priced, especially for the quality and portion size. If you’re in the area, make a reservation — this place is a must-visit.

The 500 years old restaurant in Rome. Especially, vongole was my favorite! Overall price was similar to other normal restorante. Highly recommend to experience traditional foods in Rome.

Amazing food and service that are family inspired. Everything we ate here was amazing - pasta, pork, lamb, seafood all were delicious. We had to come back as our last dinner before we leave Rome, and we’re able to dine outside by the church. Friendly staff and will make you feel like home. Such a romantic atmosphere and will surely treasure it. Highly recommend and will surely come back when we visit Rome again. Oh, don’t forget the desserts!

The food was amazing. Service was quick and friendly, even though the restaurant was almost full. Remember to book a table!

La Campana lives up to its reputation as one of Rome’s oldest trattorias — traditional, no-frills, and unapologetically local. The tripe gently stewed in a light tomato sauce with herbs and pecorino, it was tender without being mushy, and rich without the heavy-handedness some versions fall into. A dish often relegated to afterthought status on Roman menus felt like a quiet standout here. The place leans on its legacy a bit — but the food still speaks. If you’re seeking old-school charm with a dish that locals would nod at approvingly, don’t skip the trippa.

The restaurant is in the historical city center of Rome. Food is fresh and very very good. Highly recommended ! We had Carbonara, Ravioli ricotta and spinach, cacio e pepe, Italian tripa, 2 portions of artichoke roman style (exceptional - must order it) and a tiramisu. Tiramisu was the only 4/5 all the other dishes where 5/5. Paid: 78 euro, so prices are decent. Our waiter was very friendly even tho his English wasn't so good. Generally a highly recommended restaurant

This historic Roman restaurant, with over 500 years of history, delivers a dining experience that fully deserves Michelin recognition. While the presentation may appear modest and not visually elaborate, the flavors are outstanding. Every dish offers a small but memorable surprise, reflecting deep culinary experience and a strong respect for tradition. The food is honest, skillfully prepared, and consistently satisfying. What truly stands out is the exceptional value for money. The quality of the cuisine far exceeds expectations for the price, making it one of the most recommendable restaurants in Rome. Due to its reputation and popularity, advance reservations are essential, as the restaurant is constantly busy. This is a place where food quality and value take priority over appearance, and it is highly worthy of praise for both.
